OK kids, let’s turn our sarcasm amplifiers up to eleventy million for the latest Some More News, as Cody Johnston examines Donald Trump’s creepy preoccupation with walls, and why nobody in the media seems to notice how creepy it is.

In this week’s episode of Some More News, we break down the media’s inability to effectively cover the wall, which Donald Trump is obsessed with for definitely non-sexual reasons.

Even more fun when you can’t see it (i.e. hooking up cords behind your PC). “It won’t go in, must be the wrong side. *turns the cord* IT STILL WON’T GO IN!”

Apple at least was always “seam up or facing you” up till a certain point, then they abruptly switched. It’s as annoying as trying to remember “Ford—turn the key the wrong way, except for a while they were normal, now they’re backwards again”.

I thought that Ford had symmetrical keys for at least the final 20 years before ignitions went NFC-with-pushbutton; pretty sure GM was the one that still had uni-directional keys into the early 2Ks?

My last 2 Fords were pushbutton ignition (fob in pocket) and now the gearshift is pushbuttons on the dashboard.

Yeah, because GM uses the trunk key in the doors (?!) I’m talking about turning the key clockwise to unlock the driver’s door (opposite on the other side) and counterclockwise to lock—the opposite of every other lock in the world. Sometime in the late 80s into the 90s they went to the normal way, but now they’re back.

Heh, what is old is new again.

I had a 1962 Plymouth Belvedere with the push-button transmission selection in the dashboard to the left of the steering wheel.

My first car I bought off a guy that was one year ahead of me in high school. That was my learner car as far as banging on it with wrenches, screwdrivers, brazing tanks, hammers and money. Never really had it finished right. Sold it off second year of college.

If “all lives matter” and the @GOP is really “pro-life” why do they shamelessly preside over a suicide epidemic amongst *their* White voters fueled by *their* fiscal malfeasance, fuckery of Obamacare and collusion with Big Pharma/Alcohol and the gun lobby? 🤷🏾‍♀️

Trump voters still support Trump and Republicans — the voters are fine with being treated this way as long as minorities are treated worse. They also are very gullible and believe the conspiracy theories promoted by QAnon, InfoWars, and Fox.

First of all — who is going to survive the battle with the Night King and his zombie army?
I am 100% sure that Dany will make it and, years ago, supposedly GRRM’s wife made him promise that Arya would survive— but the others?? Of course, Cersei won’t be at the battle so she will meet her fate later on.

The actual quote was:

After the children graduated from college, I figured it was time for me to move to Florida.’

Blanca said it was a no-brainer, adding: ‘I was paying $10,000 a year in real estate taxes up north. I’m paying $600 a year in Florida. It’s stress-free down here.’

It was from an interview she did with the Daily Mail. If it was anyone but Charlie Kirk I would assume it was just a typo.

Going to put this in spoilers for anyone who hasn’t watched the show or has no interest.

I think most of the major characters will survive the fight with the Night King, just so they’re alive to wrap up the human wars. Betting on a lot of supporting character deaths though.

I do think Arya is going to survive it all. My guess is she ends up going back to become a Faceless Man renouncing her old life completely and really becoming no one.

Dany I’m not so sure on. I can’t point out any single reason why not, but I just don’t have a good feeling for her survival. Jon Snow’s either. Maybe it’s just that the show has got me expecting the unexpected with regards to the character’s survival.

I’d love to see Tyrion on throne but, given his history and notoriety, doubt that will ever happen.

Again, Donny never does the dirty work himself, he makes it clear what he wants to happen and his underlings make it happen without there being explicit orders. It’s why he couldn’t understand Comey and had to outright demand a pledge of loyalty to him, because he kept saying what he’d “like” to happen and Comey wasn’t followed the orders implied in the message.

Martin apparently said years ago that the end would be “bittersweet.” I could see something like the child of Jon and Danaerys being named king but Tyrion serving as regent, because all the other major players are dead.

My additional comments — which I am concealing for the same reason as you…

I am confident that Dany is going to have a child — so unless the show covers at least 9 months, she will have to survive. My confidence is based on the book prophecies because our dear showrunners butchered them all. But she may die in childbirth.

As to Arya, I hope she ends up with Gendry; it doesn’t seem to me that her fate is to become no one. Certainly possible that as the last surviving Baratheon, Gendry could assume the throne if he’s legitimized.

I really hope Martin is able to finish the books. Because every time the show runners have strayed from the plot of the books, it has gone badly. And there’s so many more interesting things in the books, like the entire Dorne arch.

re: #71 Hecuba’s daughter

I really think that Jon or Dany is going to end up having to kill the other. There’s the whole prophecy of Lightbringer/Azor Ahai that’s hanging out there as well as the prophecy of Dany’s third betrayal (this time for love I think?) Plus I’m not sure Dany is going to react very well to finding out there’s another Targaryen out there (arguably with a stronger claim to the throne than her). She’s already shown she can be pretty ruthless, enough that it even makes someone like Tyrion uneasy.

It would be nice to see Gendry take the throne but I can’t see Arya ruling alongside him. Even the lesser trappings of nobility at Winterfell sat uneasily with her; I can’t see her ever willingly wearing a crown. That’s why I see the Faceless Men as the “happiest” ending for her.

I agree. I’d love to see him finish the books because they’re so much richer than the show by itself but I’m doubting it more every day. Time and age are really working against him and having the show spoil a lot of the surprises he was planning has to be a hit to his motivation level.

Russia’s defense spending is fourth in the world (behind the US, China, and the Saudis). They also have over a million active duty military personnel with another 2.5 million in the reserves. That makes them the fifth largest military in the world, behind China, India, the US, and North Korea. For comparison’s sake - Germany, France, and the UK have somewhere around 600,000 active duty personnel.

Now, whether Russia is actually interested in a 20th century style land war in Europe is another question. They seem to be more than willing to fuck with everybody via cyber-warfare. And the damage they could do by fucking with the European central banking system is major.

The GOP made so much noise last week about how they totally disbelieved Cohen about Donny not believing he was going to win and just seeing the election as a means to enrich his “brand,” yet we hear more and more about things like this that make no sense if the candidate believed he had a real chance of winning.

My feeling on this…

I read years ago that GRRM said that when he knew how a book was going to end, he lost interest. He may have lost interest in this project but it may also be that there are too many threads to pull together in only 2 books. I love the published chapters from Winds of Winter but it’s very unlikely he can produce a satisfactory end. Too many additional characters — too many other subplots — and a huge divergence between the show and book story lines.

Another random thought on the show rather than the books:

I forgot that Cersei in her usual shortsightedness hired the Golden Company (that’s apparently who is on the Greyjoy ships in the new trailer). The Golden Company was founded by a Targaryen bastard. In the books, I think they come to Westeros behind a kid claiming to be Aegon Targaryen who was allegedly killed by the Mountain at the end of Robert’s Rebellion. I really hope this ends with Cersei getting double crossed by the sellswords because their allegiance ends up being to the dragons and not the lions.

I think you’re right. With all of the characters and subplots of the books that the show hasn’t touched, there’s probably too much there to wrap up satisfactorily in two books and with all the side projects that seem to have piqued GRRM’s interests more than main ASOIAF series, I think the end of the show is probably as close to resolution as we’re likely to ever get.

lol maybe that’s the “bittersweet” ending he was referring to…

It wouldn’t surprise me if she was betrayed by them or Euron himself (wasn’t Daario, Dany’s lover, one of the Second Sons?). But going back to prophecies again, Cersei is fated to be killed by one of her brothers (her “little brother”, if the Valyrian translation isn’t a headfake).

Then again, maybe GRRM was going to subvert the prophecy trope by having all of them meaningless and letting the characters all forge their own destinies.

[Embedded content]

There is a completely different theory about the books and the Golden Company. The Golden Company is not loyal to the legitimate Targaryens but descendants of the bastard lines — and that’s who fAegon actually is. In any case the story in the books has become so complicated, it’s difficult to see how it can be handled. At least the show confirms that the wall is coming down — but it won’t be dragon in the books that bring it down. Oh wait, it won’t be anything because the books are never coming out.

I really want to read the book resolution but, alas, I have lost all hope. Instead we have the much simpler and very different TV story completing the saga. The first year was very faithful to the original but that was it.

If the cost to himself outweighed the benefit, I think he’d cut her loose. Just like his wives, I don’t think there’s really much more to his connection to her than seeing her as an asset to be traded upon. In her case, I think she’s an ego boost - he’s the father of this beautiful successful businesswoman and therefore a reflection and enhancement of his own brilliance and success.

And his voice would be heavy with the approximation of something resembling regret that, while mostly arising put of self-pity and a sense of anger at how his weaknesses have been exposed, would at least pretend to sincerity in an effort to feed the paradoxical needs of his rampant narcissism- to appear to have some sort of affection for someone, anyone, for the sake of show, while also needing to protect himself by not caring about anyone at all unless their name is David Dennison .

I gave up on the books because (as noted above) the introduction of so many new characters and plot lines. Half-way through book four (Daenyrs in the desert and eating newborn puppies was a momentum killer) I had made the comment to friends that there is no way to tie everything up without killing off 95% of the characters.

More importantly to your point, there are no books coming out that will do anything helpful to resolve the story (without killing 95% of the known world) that would be satisfactory.

Let the dead trees saga die. Tie up the electron based one and do something else; which he is doing. As Shropshire noted, Robert Jordan is a bad model to follow. First the extended bad bad writin after a great start, then the dying part with an incomplete series. With the Wheel of a Time, Brandon Sanderson did a great job in finishing up the writing. Too good with following Jordan’s writing style and following his notes. I hated those three volumes that should have been one.
